Muhurta collects only the data necessary to provide personalized Vedic astrological calculations:
Birth profile — date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth. Used to calculate your natal chart, Vimshottari Dasha timeline, and all personalized astrological data.
Current location — city name and coordinates selected by you during setup or in Settings. Used to calculate daily Panchanga, Planetary Hours, and sunrise/sunset times for your location. We do not access your device GPS. Location is stored as the city name and rounded coordinates you provide.
Email address — used for account authentication via magic link. Never used for marketing without consent.
Calendar events — if you connect your Apple Calendar or Google Calendar, we store the event title, start time, and end time only. No descriptions, attendees, or other details are stored. Calendar access is optional and can be revoked at any time in device Settings.
AI questions & conversations — when you use interactive AI features (such as "Ask About My Day" or "Vedic Companion"), the text of the questions you submit and the AI responses are processed and may be stored in your account. See AI-Generated Insights below.
Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal data under the following legal bases as defined by the GDPR:
Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — email address and birth profile are processed to provide the core service you signed up for. Without this data, the app cannot function.
Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — push notifications, morning briefings, and non-essential analytics cookies are activated only if you explicitly enable or accept them. You may withdraw consent at any time.
Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — aggregated, non-identifying usage statistics and security/abuse prevention are processed to keep the service reliable and safe.
Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — to maintain financial, billing, and tax records as required by Spanish law.
How We Use Your Data
To compute and display personalized Vedic astrological information (Panchanga, Hora, Tara Chakra, composite score)
To identify optimal timing windows (Muhurta) based on your current location and natal chart
To generate personalized text insights and answer your questions via AI features
To send morning briefings and event notifications, if you enable them in Settings
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising purposes.
AI-Generated Insights
You are interacting with an AI system. Several features of Muhurta — including daily insights, "Ask About My Day", Vedic companion and natal/Identity readings — use a third-party artificial intelligence service (Anthropic's Claude API) to generate natural-language explanations and answers. Content produced by these features is labelled as AI-generated within the app.
What is sent to the AI provider. We send astrological data derived from your birth profile (such as planetary positions, Dasha periods, and Panchanga values) and, for interactive features, the text of the questions you choose to submit. We do not send your email address, Google user data, calendar event details, or precise location to the AI provider.
Training. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models. This is governed by Anthropic's Data Processing Agreement.
Storage & deletion of AI conversations. Your questions and the AI responses may be stored in your account (in Supabase) so you can view your history and so we can investigate errors, provide support, and prevent abuse. AI conversation history is retained while your account is active and is deleted when you delete your account. You may also request deletion of your stored AI history at any time by contacting us.
Accuracy. AI-generated content is provided for informational purposes only and may contain inaccuracies. It is not professional advice. See our AI Disclaimer.
No automated decision-making. Muhurta does not use AI to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. All insights are informational and support — but do not replace — your own decision-making.
Cookies & Analytics
We use a small number of essential cookies required for the app to function (for example, to keep you signed in). These do not require consent.
We also use Google Analytics 4 (via Google Tag Manager) to understand aggregate, non-identifying usage patterns and improve the product. Analytics and any other non-essential cookies are loaded only after you give consent through our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your cookie choices at any time. IP addresses are anonymized and analytics data is not used to identify you personally.

How We Share Your Data
We share your data only with the service providers necessary to operate the app. We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for advertising purposes.
Supabase — our database and authentication provider, used to securely store your account data, birth profile, calendar event metadata, and AI conversation history.
Anthropic (Claude API) — our AI provider, used to generate personalized text insights and answer your questions. We send only astrological data derived from your birth profile, daily Panchanga values, and the text of questions you submit. We never send your Google user data, calendar event details, email address, or precise location to the AI provider. Anthropic does not train its models on data submitted through its API.
Google (Analytics) — used, subject to your cookie consent, to collect aggregated, non-identifying usage statistics.
Stripe — when you make a purchase, your payment is sold and processed by Stripe acting as the merchant of record, and where applicable by Link. To complete your purchase and to calculate applicable taxes, Stripe collects information directly from you — including your name, billing address, and payment details — as an independent controller of that payment and tax data. We do not receive or store your full card details. We receive limited confirmation data (such as your subscription status, plan, the last four digits and brand of your card, and transaction identifiers) needed to provision your access and keep records. Stripe's handling of your data is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy (stripe.com/privacy) and, where Link is used, Link's privacy notice presented at checkout.
Resend — used to send transactional email (for example, sign-in links and account notifications).
Apple and Google Calendar — accessed only to read your event title, start time, and end time. No data is transferred back to these providers; access is read-only and optional.
Google user data. Data obtained through Google Calendar (event title, start time, end time) is used solely to display optimal timing windows within the app. It is never sold, never shared with third parties for advertising, and never sent to our AI provider. It is stored only in Supabase and can be deleted at any time by revoking calendar access or deleting your account.
Muhurta's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the
Google API Services User Data Policy,
including the Limited Use requirements.
Data Storage & Protection
Your data is stored in Supabase (eu-west-3 region, hosted on AWS infrastructure in the European Union). Some service providers (Anthropic, Stripe, Vercel) are located outside the EU/EEA. Where personal data is transferred to the United States or other countries, such transfers are carried out under Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, ensuring an adequate level of data protection.
We apply the following protections:
Encryption in transit — all data is transmitted over TLS-encrypted connections.
Encryption at rest — all stored data, including your birth profile and location, is encrypted at rest.
Access control — Row-Level Security (RLS) policies ensure each user can access only their own data. Records are isolated per authenticated account.
Sensitive data handling — sensitive data (date, time, and place of birth; selected city and coordinates) is used only for astrological calculations, is never shared for advertising, and is accessible only to your authenticated account and the service providers listed above.
Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your entire account and all associated data — including AI conversation history — directly within the app Settings, or by contacting us at the address below.
Exception: If you have made purchases, we are legally required under Spanish tax and commercial law to retain basic billing and transaction records (handled via Stripe) for up to 6 years, even after you delete your account.
Children's Privacy
Muhurta is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account and use the service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your Rights
Under the GDPR and applicable Spanish data protection law, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
Restriction — request that we limit processing of your data in certain circumstances.
Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (e.g. push notifications, analytics cookies), you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
For users in India (DPDPA 2023) — We comply with the Indian Digital Personal Data Protection Act. In addition to the rights above, you have the right to nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity.
